Hollow rod is produced by Sutcliffe Productions, whose main customers are the model aircraft enthusiasts. Plastruct & Evergreen Scale Models from the United States produce an excellent and varied range of rod and strip; and recently an expanding range of structural shapes. While structural shapes have been available for some years the quality of these sections has been poor, leading me to use brass shapes in lieu of plastic. However, in 1995 Evergreen has begun to market a new range of high quality shapes which compare favourably with some brass products.

This may require the drawing of plans - rarely full drawings, but sections that may prove difficult to construct otherwise. The standard three views are not normally sufficient; isometric, oblique views are all very useful. It is now that those photographs of the subject provide the final understanding of the project. SCRATCH-BUILDS Scale & measurement Pure scratch-building - in which the modeller produces 100% of all components - is generally rare. The majority of models can be scratch-built using components of analogous kits.
