The electrochemical performance of CS15 looks to be similar in basic and acidic medium, while smaller values are observed for CS48 in basic medium (Table 4). Such a difference might be related to the different surface functionality of the two materials, the latter controlling the wettability of the materials. In the case of CS48, surface oxygenated groups which dissociate differently depending on the electrolyte pH, could be responsible of different adsorption of the ions on the carbon surface in both media.
The voltammograms of CS15 and CS48 for the acidic and organic media have a box-like shape which is characteristic for an ideal capacitor with quick charge propagation. As seen in Table 4, the two materials exhibit high values of capacitance both in aqueous and organic medium; the capacitance values of CS48 reach 200F/g and 110 F/g in acidic and organic medium, respectively. These values are promising compared to other reported in the literature for various activated carbons with comparable area.
